The Results Are In For 2016! Just in Time for Valentine’s Day. 

Vault conducts an office romance survey every year, and the results are always surprising. Only 6% of respondents believed that NO office romances were appropriate. Furthermore, co-workers have opinions about inappropriate office romances: 33% believe co-workers romance is not unacceptable, 33% believe is unacceptable between project partners, and 24% believe that romance between employees in same department is not acceptable.  

Get this! Human Resources professionals are among the most likely to have had some kind of romantic relations with a colleague! 

The results:

  • 10% of respondents met their spouse or partner at work.
  • 53% Human Resources professionals have had a workplace romance at one point in their career.
  • 51% have participated in an affair at one point in their career; 66% Baby Boomers, 59% Gen X and 44% Gen Y.  
  • 59% consumer product, 58% of retail, 54% government, 51% technology, 39% manufacturing and education and 27% accounting employees have had a workplace romance at one point in their career.
  • 61% of Hospitality and tourism employees have had a workplace romance at one point in their career.
  • 22 men and 15% women have had a random ‘hookup”
  • 25% stated the office romance ended a marriage or long-term relationship
  • 12% stated that the affair affected their career.
  • 33% believe their career has been enhanced because of their romantic relationship.
  • 32% have had a tryst (sex) in their workplace; 5% GOT CAUGHT!
  • 26% stated they felt uncomfortable with a colleagues romance.
