I recently spoke at a chamber luncheon.  Many employers communicated they could not keep employees or hire any. Most employers had raised their compensation, but that is not the only thing you should do.  However, once they listened to my presentation, they probably changed some things at their Companies.  Let me share some of the points I made.

 

This picture went viral, and many of the Gen Z (24 years old and below) employees talked about the issues they had communicated to management which got ignored.  Did you know potential candidates look at various websites to view your ratings as an employer?  The measurements include Company Culture, Compensation & Benefits, Management, Career Opportunities, and Work-Life Balance.

As an employer, you need to know that your Company is rated by current employees, past employees, and past applicants.  Past applicants can tell everyone who they interviewed with and rate their interviews. In addition, any employees and applicants will discuss and comment on the employee-applicant experience.  Here are the websites where Millennials and Gen Z’s go-to apply and look at your Company ratings.

The Business Group on Health conducted the “2021 State of Mental Health in the Workplace Report,” achieved with small companies (2-99 Owners, Founders & CEO’s).  Survey says: 60% of employees said mental health benefits would factor in selecting their next job.

The top benefits employees cited as “very helpful” were:

  • Employee-specific professional development plans
  • The option to have a flexible schedule
  • A system for tracking employee progress and goals
  • Health-maintenance programs
  • Programs that offer treatment referrals for mental health issues or substance abuse

 

  •  92% of employers expanded their support for programs addressing issues such as stress management, sleep improvement, and resiliency and supporting mental health programs for dependent children.
  • 74% of employers increased work/life opportunities, with 69% adding new leave options or expanding their leave benefits during the pandemic.
  • 64% of employers enhanced child care support.
  • 55% provided new paid time off (PTO) to care for a child or other family member.
  • 48% provided backup child care support.
  • 83% have or will provide programs to support emergency savings, debt management, and budgeting.
  • 77% will offer resources to support critical financial decisions such as mortgages, wills, and income protection.

 ***Many of the recent changes above were not only in response to Millennials and GenZ’s but to the demands of the post-COVID workforce in general.
